A good tripod is probably the most essential photography accessory you can get. It will hold your camera steady for super crisp pictures. Tripods are what make slow shutter speeds (slow shutter speeds let you take a break from your flash) and techniques such as time lapse photography possible. When buying a tripod, look for the following:

  • Strong & sturdy
  • Somewhat lightweight*
  • Wide base

* A good tripod will have some weight to it, but you don't want to carry around a 30lb tripod. Try to find one made out of lighter metal like aluminum.

Also, tripods come with a variety of heads. Find one that has a head you like. Many high end tripods are modular, where you can choose between different heads on different tripods.
